Staying Curious is the Urquiola Way

It seems that a name one sees a lot in the Design world is one that is unusual with a capital U. Urquiola, Patricia Urquiola. One might wonder with the breadth of projects she and her studio have under their Architectural and Design belts… how does she work on so many different project types? The reason for this can be found in her curiosity and desire to turn what might at first seem obvious, and present it in a fresh and unexpected way.

When working on collaborative projects and projects for others, she tries to establish a “fundamental element” as the basis of each project—she does this by building an empathic connection with the user to use as a basis for her and her designers to keep to while designing—their true design north. She also says of each project: “I always think that the project I'm working on will be the best one.”

Under the Andreu World brand, she has worked on furniture collections focusing on the idea of Circular design and creating towards the goal of 100% sustainable furniture design, which is what the Product, Nuez BIO Lounge was born from, A piece created from the intersection of “…where design and materials are anti-fragile and resilient.”

The result was the creation of a new thermo-polymer sustainable material that is natural in origin, with a biological base designed to make a lounge chair sustainably.
